Any of you guys seen this before - the Zen of Passive Solar Heating?

!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

I’m almost tempted to make a small scale model and measure how well it actually works. I don’t have a ton of south facing siding on the garage at the new house (Mrs. BaconSandwich and I bought a house - it has a garage!), but even if it could keep it a few degrees warmer in there in the winter, it could be worth it.

(Also, what have I missed in the past few months on Oppo?)

It’s called a trombe wall , and they’re quite common in the far north. I used them occasionally in school.

That building is just about the best case study for passive heating/cooling there is, one of my profs loved it.

Im a big fan of it. Its nice looking too, way more comfy and homey feeling than many NP visitors centers.

Also this building (my uncles cabin next to ours)

Kinja'd!!!

is like a giant trombe wall. that entire south face is double pane glass and skylights that feeds into a large two story darkwood room with a slated floor, the entire structure is double envelope and it heats the solarium and convects throughout the entire house. Excess summer heat is vented out the top. It works pretty well but my aunts place blocks a lot of the sun now.

That’s super neat. I guess I didn’t see that building when I was there - we only stopped by briefly during an absolutely crazy road trip.
